Scary Halloween Movies
Here are ten fabulously frightening films that you could sink your teeth into, no pun intended, starting Allhallows Eve.
1. The Shining. This Jack Nicholson-starrer is hailed as one of the most, if not THE most, frightening film in history. A relocating family and a haunted house, with a possessed father as played by the Oscar Award winner Nicholson have given birth to a modern day classic based on the bestselling novel by the Master of Horror Fiction himself, Stephen King. Scare-O-Meter Rating: 5 skulls!
2. Scream trilogy. This series of films created by Wes Craven brought back to prominence the slasher flick genre in the mid 90’s. Starring a bevy of popular matinee idols, the Scream trilogy was good enough for many moments of shock and, well, literal screams. Scare-O-Meter Rating: 3 skulls!
3. The Exorcist. Back in the 70’s, people’s idea of horror were vampires and Frankenstein monsters. Then came a young Linda Blair with her head spinning like a top, possessed by the devil himself as she spews green vomit and walks in an inverted manner like a spider. A lot of people actually found it hard to sleep for months when the movie first made the rounds in theaters. Scare-O-Meter Rating: 5 skulls!
4. Evil Dead. The movie that launched Sam Raimi to stardom, Evil Dead still maintains a solid cult following to this very day. Bruce Campbell’s tale of survival in a haunted cabin in the middle of nowhere, and his exploits against creatures from another plane of existence, has spawned two successful sequels that are considered by many as timeless. Scare-O-Meter Rating: 3 skulls!
5. Night Of The Living Dead. This 60’s classic by respected horror director George Romero gave birth to a new genre that was previously unheard of: zombies. The dead coming back to life was a concept of pure genius, and Mr. Romero managed to pull it off for a budget that wasn’t even enough to purchase a plane ticket to a location outside of the country. Night Of The Living Dead is a masterpiece in horror that launched George Romero’s storied career. Scare-O-Meter Rating: 4 skulls!

9. 28 Days. What if man’s basest instincts are unleashed? It would surely be hell on Earth. In this film, a virus called Rage was released in Europe, and in 28 days, society devolved into barbaric territories and violent wastelands. Skull-O-Meter Rating: 4 skulls!
